Electrolysis Tips
For a better treatment experience avoid caffeine for a few hours before your appointment.
Gently exfoliating your skin before your treatment opens up the follicles and lets the unwanted hair slide out more easily.
If your electrologist can’t see the hairs, they can’t zap the hairs. Plucking, waxing, threading, or tweezing before your hair removal appointment reduces the number of hairs your electrologist can remove.
Rest assured that electrology is the only hair removal method recognized as permanent by the FDA.
Talk to your electrologist about any questions or concerns. We want your experience to be as comfortable and effective as possible.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drinking plenty of water helps with the comfort of hair removal.
Clean skin releases unwanted hair more easily. Remove your makeup before your appointment, so the hair follicles are clean and accessible.
It’s okay to shave between treatments, but never tweeze!
The hair you see is not all the hair you have. Hair grows in cycles. That’s why it takes more than one appointment to permanently clear an area.
FAQs
-
Electrolysis is a hair removal treatment procedure designed to destroy a hair follicle to permanently remove unwanted hair growth from any targeted area on one’s body.
-
Electrolysis is the process of inserting a very thin probe into the hair follicle and applying a small electrical current to the hair root. The current destroys the cells that allow that hair to grow, and the treated hair is easily lifted out with tweezers. This follicle, if treated properly, will not grow a hair again.

The treatment sensation has been described as a “sting,” a “warm sensation,” and “like the snap of a rubber band.” We’re happy to recommend an effective over-the-counter topical anesthetic you can find at your local drug store if you choose to use one. Many people even find taking their preferred OTC analgesic like aspirin, Aleve® or Motrin® 45 minutes before their session to be very helpful.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Laser hair removal is not permanent, meaning eventually laser treated hair follicles will return and will require indefinite ongoing follow up treatments. The only permanent method of hair removal approved by the FDA for all skin and hair colors is Electrolysis. Lasers also have some significant circumstantial impediments to effectiveness. They have a hard time effectively treating individuals with light, white, or red pigmented hairs and they also have difficulty treating individuals with thin or fine hair strands. Additionally Laser hair treatments can pose a risk to individuals with darker skin colors. Laser Treatment can affect melanin pigment in dark skinned individuals, which can result in permanent scarring and skin discoloration.

Immediately after treatment, your skin will be red and possibly slightly swollen. This usually passes as early as an hour later but can take up to several hours to pass. Using an ice pack can help to reduce swelling. Occasionally, tiny temporary pinpoint scabs may form at the follicle sites treated while the body is healing. Please do not try to remove them until the slough off on their own… they create no scarring or lasting effects unless they are disturbed prematurely, which can cause scarring risk.
